The All Progressives Congress (APC), Anambra State Chapter, has rebuked the Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo-led government over the shabby teachers’ recruitment exercise recently held in the state.

This was contained in a press release signed by the State Publicity Secretary, Mr. Okelo Madukaife in Enugu on Tuesday.

Mr. Madukaife also took a swipe on the State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, who, using vulgarity, insulted applicants at some failed exam centres of the recruitment exercise.

Speaking in the statement, Madukaife said: “Our great party will not like to dabble into tantrums around the domestic approach to her duties by two-month old long Commissioner for Education, Prof. Mrs Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, as we are unable to lower standards based on an anonymous invasion of privacy.

“We are however miffed by the features and reports emanating from the screening exercise for teachers which for undisclosed reasons were badly handled.

“All sorts of mishaps including bad words and fisticuffs have attended the overcentralised exercise.

“It is our surmise that the failure of Chukwuma Soludo Government to take that exercise to zones and local governments increased the pressure on the interviewers, examiners and the examined and set the tone for any possible altercation that could have arisen, in which only the knowledge of the full facts can lead to a sound judgment.

“Since neither the anonymous voice nor the government is willing to come clear with the facts, we urge the Commissioner of Education and Government of Anambra State led by Prof. Soludo, in general terms, to embrace

politeness in dealing with the public, cut down on grammar flying in the air and get their acts together, as the honeymoon is over.

“Specifically for the exercise under review, only sure-footed actions of transparency and probity will return credibility to the bashed exercise and make hot and calm protesters forget that there was a supposed rude exchange with an unknown interviewee,” he concluded.

It could be recalled that News Band reported how Prof. Chuma-Udeh, the Anambra State Commissioner for Education recently appointed by Governor Soludo, was caught on tape using vulgarity to insult applicants who were at one of the failed centres for the teachers’ recruitment exam.

Professor Chuma-Udeh was heard calling the applicant “idiot” and “stupid” but unbeknownst to her was being recorded by the applicant
