One of the leading aspirant of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the forthcoming Anambra State off cycle governorship election, Prof Obiora Okonkwo, has said he remains the best candidate to unseat the incumbent governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance.

Okonkwo who is the Chairman of United Nigeria Airlines, also appealed to the APC National Chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje, and the party’s National Working Committee to consider him the consensus candidate for the election.

He made the passionate appeal during the official commissioning of the new APC State Secretariat in Awka, Anambra State capital, on Saturday.

Recall that Mr. Ganduje had some few days ago, in one of his strategic meetings with an APC support group at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, stated that the ruling party would prefer having a consensus candidate than having an unpopular candidate for the Anambra governorship ticket ahead of the election.

He also pledged to present an award to Anambra APC if they could be united and produce a consensus candidate to avoid the stress and the financial jamboree that comes with holding the conventional primary election to elect a candidate.

But while reacting to the APC leader, Okonkwo, said, “I remain the best candidate APC can use to unseat the incumbent governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressive Grand Alliance APGA at the election.

“If elected as the governor, Anambra will be poised to witness unprecedented growth, peace, and development that would transform the lives of Ndi-Anambra.

“I promised to uphold the values of good governance, transparency, and service to the people of Anambra State, saying these are the bedrock of APC’s vision for the country.”

Professor Okonkwo noted that he remained committed to supporting the ongoing transformation policies of the Bola Tinubu-led government.

He promised to work with the president to ensure that the vision of a greater Anambra State is achieved for the benefit of all residents irrespective of tribe, ethnic region and political affiliations.
