The Anambra State Government has, on April 7, 2020, commenced fumigation of major markets to sanitize them of any contamination following the coronavirus pandemic ravaging the globe.

This, according to the state government, is part of its effort to ensure that the coronavirus does not spread in the state and beyond.

The exercise started at the popular Main Market, Onitsha and continued to other markets in the state.

Some dignitaries that withessed the exercise include the Commissioner for Trade and Commerce, Hon. Uchenna Okafor [Wiper] and Commissioner for Health, Dr. Vincent Okpala.

Others are the Managing Director of State Fire Service, AVM. Ben. Chiobi [Retd] and Special Assistant on Health to Governor Willie Obiano, Dr. Simeon Onyemaechi, et al.

Recall that Governor Obiano had, in the wake of the outbreak of COVID-19, said that fumigation of the 63 markets in Anambra State will be carried out while the traders are at home.

“This,” according to him, “will help to reduce the toxicity of the business environment and minimize the exposure of our people to different kinds of infections.”
