Our dynamic chapter of our great party shares the joy of landmark victories and hereby congratulates Gov. Adegboyega Oyetola of Osun State who has convinced the Osun Elections Petition Tribunal that he won his state governorship elections of July 16, 2022.
We equally congratulate Future Senator. Ifeanyi Onuigbo. Who has won a protracted legal battle at the Supreme Court which has confirmed that he is the APC candidate for Abia Central Senatorial District?
Both victories signify the power of diligent pursuit of justice, with focus and resistance against brigandage and other unconventional methods.
In the case of Gov. Oyetola, he pursued his case without giving in to intimidation and cacophony and in the end opened up a new vista for the improvements of election conduct.
INEC has been indicted by this judgment and INEC has no option but to learn the lessons of Osun, without chest-beating and improve its processes ahead of February 25, 2023.
We hope that Gov. Oyetola will consolidate the gains of his first term, when sworn in, and correct whatever errors he may have made therein for the benefit of his state.
We invite the National Assembly to rise and amend the minimum education clause for qualification to elections from ‘schooling up to O Levels’ to passing ‘O level with a minimum of five credits’, as minimum leadership bar must rise with the demands of the times.
In the case of Onuigbo we urge him to be receptive to party members on the opposite side of the internal conflict, to inform victory in the more critical election of 28 days ahead.
We call on the National Chairman and leadership of APC to step into the resolution of issues in Abia APC where Onuigbo belongs, as well as similar conflicts in close to eight chapters, before going into elections.
Once again, we congratulate the victorious and urge them to be magnanimous in victory.
