Amaechi wants to make Tinubu’s govt ungovernable — Defence Minister
Mr Bello Matawalle, the Minister of State for Defence has berated former Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi, for his recent remarks calling on Nigerians to protest against the scorching economic hardships in the country.
He accused the former governor of Rivers State of inciting violence and unrest, describing his comments as reckless and irresponsible.
In a statement made available to newsmen by the Director of Information in the Ministry of Defence, Henshaw Ogubike on Saturday, Matawalle issued a strong warning to Amaechi.
He urged him to desist from making inflammatory statements that could threaten the nation’s peace and stability.
Matawalle expressed concern over the potential dangers of such remarks, stressing that it is irresponsible for a former public servant of Amaechi’s standing to incite Nigerians against their government.
He further noted that President Bola Tinubu is working to tackle national challenges through impactful reforms.
“It is absurd, preposterous, and shameful for anyone to exploit the genuine struggles of our citizens for selfish political gain,” Matawalle stated. He reiterated President Tinubu’s commitment to maintaining peace and security across Nigeria, warning that any attempts to destabilize the country through incitement will not be tolerated.
“We will not allow anyone to fuel violence or manipulate the current situation for their benefit. Let this serve as a final warning to Amaechi and his cohorts,” Matawalle added.
He concluded by urging Amaechi to collaborate with the government to advance the nation, rather than making short-sighted assertions.
