Heavy controversy has continued to trail the death of the late Mrs. Chidiebere Iloka (Nee Ezenwonye), who was allegedly killed in a case of domestic violence gone bad, by her husband, Hon Mbazulike Iloka, popularly known as Mba Mba, the newly appointed Transition Committee Chairman of Nnewi North Local Government Area.

How the Iloka controversy started

The story started with Bell News, an online media’s, publication that late Mrs. Iloka was murdered during squabbles with her husband.

Hon. Mba Mba, however, claimed that the late Mrs. Chidiebere slumped and died.

According to a press release from Iloka, Lady Chidiebere’s death was a case of a bad fall and not a case of domestic violence.

He further revealed eyewitnesses who were present when the incident happened, and appealed with the public to stop spreading the false narrative of domestic violence but rather pray for God’s grace on the family in this time of agony and grief.

The initial part of the controversy kicked off when Bell News alleged a conspiracy to cover up the alleged murder after the publication.

Bell News, in the publication, also cited the brother of the deceased, Mr. Chikwado Ezenwonye, who according to him, also alleged that the death of the woman is controversial.

To his surprise and chagrin, however, Mr. Ezenwonye denied speaking with him despite overwhelming evidence seen and heard by News Band correspondent that they spoke.

Then followed the unexpected.

News Band steps in

The publisher of Bell News, Chief Augustine Ikeh Synod, popularly known as Ikedoji, on August 10, narrowly escaped an abduction/ assassination attempt by yet-to-be-ascertained persons.

News Band reported that Chief Ikedoji, who is also an aspirant for the Anambra State House of Assembly for the 2023 general elections under the Young Progressives Party (YPP), was accosted at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH), Nnewi, Anambra State, by unfamiliar faces.

His instinctive effort to avoid them failed and they immediately attacked him physically and tried to bundle him into a waiting vehicle.

By a stroke of chance, however, the political aspirant escape to his waiting car with his driver on stand-by.

The mystery surrounding the daring attempt is yet to be unraveled but a source, who anonymously spoke to this medium from Nnewi, noted that the attack on Ikedoji, barely days after he authorised the publication of the alleged murder of late Mrs. Iloka by her husband, cannot be unconnected.

Mba Mba Iloka’s in-law joins the fray

A sudden, entirely new and unexpected twist to the development was further added by Mr. Emmanuel Ezenwonye, the in-law to Mba Mba, who absolved him of any complicity in the death of her daughter.

In an exclusive video interview with Anaedo online, another Nnewi-based media outfit, Mr. Ezenwonye said that his daughter and her husband lived peacefully.

He stated categorically: “My late daughter lived peacefully with her husband”.

Junior Ezenwonye disagrees with father, insists on domestic violence

Before the dust of the interview granted by the elderly Ezenwonye could settle, a family member and first son of the family, Mr. Uchenna Ezenwoye a.k.a Mayor, in a voice note given in an undisclosed WhatsApp group, claimed that his brother Chikwado and Mba Mba are lying.

In the three-part audio presentation, Mr. Mayor, disagreeing with father, insisted that his sister died in a domestic violence, adding that Mba Mba killed her over issues involving one of his numerous concubines.

He even went as far as disclosing that he had, on several occasions, personally intervened in Mba Mba’s home over domestic violence involving his concubines.

What people say about the Iloka saga

An interested party, one Ebube Dike, in a post on his Facebook dated August 12  declared: “Mba Mba is a monster!”

Writing, he said: “It has been confirmed this evening on Nnewi Radio station that Mba Mba Iloka beat his wife to death over a heated argument about a side chick the husband always gives more attention to, even in the presence of his wife.

“Mba mba is such a hopless (sic) and a disgrace to Nnewi and whatever he represents.

“Before the death of this young lady, who was his wife and mother of his children, she was one of the very kind and down to earth lady that has no problem.

“She is a graduate that holds a good position at Teaching hospital Nnewi.

“A daughter of Igbo Ukwu, who hails from a rich family that managed to accept marrying Mba Mba, a stack illiterate that can’t spell his name.

“Mba Mba has been maltreating this young pretty lady for years due to other women he sleeps with.

“However, he accidentally became TC of Nnewi North and it didn’t touch this man to at least change as he has been bestowed with a very honorable position in the state.

“He still went ahead on Sunday everyone went to church to start beating his wife to the point that she gave up to the ghost.

“Mba Mba will suffèr forever!!! Chai! Obi agbawa m ooo! (I am heart broken)” he concluded.

Anambra State Governor reacts

In the meantime, the Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo has suspended the newly appointed Transition Committee chairman.

Governor Soludo suspended Mba Mba over suspicious circumstances leading to the death of his wife, Chidiebere IIoka.

Reacting in a press release dated August 12, 2022, Mba Mba, however, discountenanced what he referred to as “many unconfirmed stories behind the death” of his wife.
