Again, Buhari has largely betrayed his 2014 understanding with Tinubu ~ by Chima Christian

The more I think of it, the more I realise that there is an access that needs to be granted before one can see farther than his nose. By that access, this writer warned that the 2014 merger, if it succeeds in bringing Buhari in, will eventually betray Tinubu. After Buhari emerged, he repeated the warning, this time with more clarity.

I visited the matter a couple of times more during the intervening years. The most emphatic being after the cashless policy and recolouring of the Naira notes were announced late last year. I privately said to my close associates that the policies were designed to stop Tinubu.

To demonstrate the level of confidence I have in that postulation, I went to Authority FM in Nnewi to say it publicly on December 13, 2022. I repeated that on Seven FM Onitsha a few days after.

Well, Tinubu was in Ogun state yesterday and he openly confirmed what we have always known about his relationship with his now estranged beneficiaries. Tinubu told his audience that the recoloured Naira notes and the present (artificial) fuel scarcity were all designed to stop him from getting into Aso Rock.

The saddest thing for Tinubu, I guess, should be that these things are being designed and implemented by the very same people he helped bring into office in 2015.

There is an obvious pattern; from Afonja to Abiola and now Tinubu. Either Tinubu is a poor student of history or he is so narcissistic to believe that he can ride a Tiger and not end in its belly.

Forget all these Buhari’s talk about leaving a legacy of “free and fair elections” in Nigeria. It is a carefully designed public relations strategy.

The aim is to walk away from the 2014 agreement and hand the Presidency to his brother PDP’s Atiku Abubakar, all the while being praised to the high heavens as a champion of “free and fair” elections.

Our people don’t reflect at a sufficiently deep level. That is why Buhari is so confident that an APC government allowing for, and indeed secretly working for, a PDP victory can be spun to appear like “free and fair” elections and people will swallow it hook line, and sinker.

For many, the only evidence they need to adjudge an election credible is that it produces a winner that is supposedly not a member of the ruling party. Forgetting that “PDAPC” were cut from the same tree.

I’m tempted to say that Africa’s morning is still far. But I won’t yield to that temptation. I’ll stay on my message;

Africa’s morning will come. Don’t ask me when. Read more.
