AFCON qualifier: Super Eagles suffer shock defeat to Rwanda
The Super Eagles of Nigeria advanced to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Morocco despite a 2-1 defeat to Rwanda in Uyo.
The Eagles took the lead in front of their home fans, following a goalless first half, with Samuel Chukwueze opening the scoring.
The AC Milan winger produced a brilliant solo effort, bypassing three Rwanda defenders before calmly slotting the ball into the net.
However, Rwanda staged a dramatic comeback, netting twice in quick succession in the 72nd and 75th minutes to secure a home victory.
Despite the defeat, Nigeria finished atop their AFCON qualifying group with a record of three wins, two draws, and one loss.
However, the Super Eagles will now shift focus to preparations for the main tournament, set to take place in Morocco in 2025.
