*Asks presidency to call police to order*
A pro-Democracy Non-governmental organisation – Human Rights Writers Association Of Nigeria (HURIWA) has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to start the implementation of comprehensive economic blueprints that would turn around the collapsing economic landscape of Nigeria and should do less of publicly bemoaning the state of affairs of Nigeria since according to it the hallmark of courageous leadership is to inspire hope and not spread despair and sorrow.
The group was reacting to the admission in faraway India during his just ended visit by President Muhammadu Buhari that Nigeria is insolvent and can’t pay 42 ministers.
The Rights group has also called on President Muhammadu Buhari to call the Inspector General of Police Mr Solomon Arase to order to withdraw his undemocratic and unconstitutional threats to physically stop supporters of the detained pro-Biafra Europe based Radio Director Mr Nnamdi Kanu from carrying out planned nationwide peaceful rallies to ask for the release of their leader.
HURIWA said President Muhammadu Buhari must compel him (Solomon Arase) to respect the constitutional provisions of basic rights to freedom of assembly and speech to avoid the possible shedding of blood of peaceful protesters and creating tensions.
The Rights group said the right to freely protest peacefully against or in support of government policies or decision or indecisions once taken away by brute force could undermine democracy and the rule of law. “Nigeria must not be turned into a Banana Republic “, HURIWA asserted.
In a statement signed jointly by the National Coordinator Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko and the National Media affairs Director Miss Zainab Yusuf, HURIWA reminded President Muhammadu Buhari that the 14 million voters that gave him the mandate to govern the nation for a four -year tenure were convinced based on his claims of possessing the ‘magic wand’ and functional economic blueprints that his administration could change their misfortunes to fortune.
HURIWA, therefore, is getting increasingly worried that the President has spent more time complaining than putting into action those fool-proof and workable measures that could create national wealth and ensure equitable redistribution of national wealth to all and sundry.
HURIWA said the President should listen to constructive critics who are demanding unambiguous economic direction from him since as an elected civilian President he is constitutionally obliged to work for the happiness of the greatest percentage of Nigerians.

HURIWA recalled that President Muhammadu Buhari had in India admitted that Nigeria is indeed broke. He said that the country is at the moment struggling to pay workers’ salaries even as he says he wants to be remembered as a Nigerian president who fought corruption to a standstill, assuring Nigerians, who are not involved in corruptly enriching themselves with public funds, not to be afraid.
But the Rights Group challenged the current administration to quickly inaugurate a good economic team to go to work without further waste of precious time and to implement transparent and accountable mechanisms for kick-starting Nigeria’s near- moribund economy.
“Let the President end the blame game now and begin the proper qualitative and good governance that Nigerians expect from her Federal and sub-national political leadership “.
The Rights group has also called on President Muhammadu Buhari to unfold the government’s panacea to the increasing rate of youth unemployment and poverty.
Government, it says must put effective measures in place to create the enabling environment to encourage rapid private sector- driven industrialisation so jobs in both formal and informal sectors can be created for the millions of unemployed school leavers and graduates.
“While no effort should be spared to wage an all-out war against corruption and economic crimes, the national government must not abandon her social contract obligations of checking the spread of mass poverty and the collapse of basic infrastructures “.
On the reported signal sent to all 36 states commands and the Federal Capital Territory by the Inspector General of Police Mr Solomon Arase to crush peaceful protesters demanding the release from illegal detention of Mr Nnamdi Kanu, the Director of the Europe Based Radio Biafra, HURIWA said it was tantamount to asking trigger happy unruly armed police operatives to extra legally kill civilians just for exercising their constitutional freedoms.
“Solomon Arase the IGP would be dragged to International Criminal Court in The Hague Netherlands for prosecution over crimes against humanity should any blood of pro-Biafra protester be shed following his very notorious public signal to the police State commands on Saturday”, HURIWA warned.
