Immigration recruitment stampede: Court frees Abba Moro, convicts ex-Perm Sec
A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has, on Thursday, discharged and acquitted Senator Patrick Abba Moro and convicted a former Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Interior, Mrs. Anastasia Daniel-Nwobia over the botched 2014 recruitment exercise of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS).
Justice Dimgba also discharged and acquitted a Director of Finance in the Ministry, Femi Alaiyebami.
Mrs. Daniel-Nwoba was convicted on only Count Four of all the charges levelled against her.
Ruling, the presiding judge, Justice Nnamdi Dimgba found Mrs Daniel-Nwobia guilty of breaching the Public Procurement Act (PPA) by not ensuring that the approval of the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) was obtained in relation to the contract for the recruitment exercise.
Meanwhile, the judge deferred the sentencing of Daniel-Nwoba till April 27.
He ordered that she remain on her bail condition pending the sentencing.
