80y.o. Ekiti man stabs 7-month pregnant woman to death, remanded
An Ekiti State court has remanded one Mr. Lucas Ateniola, aged 80, in Ado Ekiti correctional facility.
News Band was informed that Mr. Ateniola had stabbed a seven-month pregnant woman, Mrs Regina Nwamaka Onogwu, to death at Umere-Ekiti in Ekiti State, both of whom were neighbors in the same compound.
Ateniola also stabbed the daughter of late Mrs. Onogwu, whose life was saved by doctors after she was rushed to the hospital in an unconscious state.
Gory pictures of the incident forwarded by Eagle Eyes Transparency International to this medium showed the guts of the late woman spilled out and she had died instantly.
According to eyewitnesses, trouble started in early March 2023 after Mr Lucas had alleged that his now deceased victim was responsible for his stolen goods within the compound.
The late Mrs Regina, who felt she was defamed based on the false allegations peddled by Mr Ateniola, reported to the traditional chief of the community.
The community chief, in turn, summoned all the parties to his palace in the spirit of fair hearing.
He, however, discovered that based on Ateniola’s antecedents, he is a pathological liar, hence, banished him from the community in Umere-Ekiti.
Following the judgement, Ateniola was heard saying: “I will carry out an act that would shock the Bale and the entire community before I finally leave the community”.
On Friday the 24th March 2023, he struck with a knife and snuffed the live of late Regina Onogwu, a Benue state indigene, and her daughter Miss Alice.
Mr Lucas had threatened, to the hearing of onlookers, that he was going to kill as many people as he could and kill himself as well.
In the course of the investigation, it was revealed that he had written a sucide note with a rope for him to commit sucide after murdering his victims.
He was, however, apprehended by the community youths and handed over to the police.
Presently, Alice is critically lying in an intensive care unit as a result of multiple stabs she got from Mr Lucas whereas the late mother, Regina Onogwu, didn’t make it as she died instantly.
Lucas was detained at the Ekiti state Police Command’s Criminal Investigation Department while investigation was going on.
Following the court order, on Wednesday, he has been conveyed to the prison while undergoing trial and awaiting judgement. Read more.
