Some 353 Nigerian doctors have gained employment in the United Kingdom within the last 100 days, according to data published on the website of the country’s General Medical Council (GMC).

GMC, the agency responsible for licensing and maintaining the official register of medical practitioners in the United Kingdom disclosed that showed that at least 353 Nigerian-trained doctors have been licensed between June 10, 2021 and September 20, 2021.

The report also showed that between July 24, 2020, and September 21, 2021, about 862 Nigeria trained doctors were licensed in the UK despite the COVID-19 pandemic.

It disclosed further that a total of 8,737 doctors who obtained their degrees in Nigeria currently practise in the UK.

In the meantime, the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has continued its strike action.

NARD said it would not call off the strike despite the no-work-no-pay position of the federal government.
