31 feared dead in Philippine ferry fire
195 passengers and 35 crew were rescued from the vessel as it was engulfed by flames off Baluk-Baluk Island in the southern Philippines, authorities said, with bodies found in air-conditioned cabins and an unknown number of people still missing.
The Lady Mary Joy 3 was headed to Jolo Island from Zamboanga City when a fire broke out as passengers slept, causing the captain to run the ship aground to save lives, the Philippine Coast Guard said, citing witness accounts.
At least three children, including a six-month baby, are among the dead, authorities said. The cause of the fire is as-yet undetermined.
