Three people were killed during a fight which erupted between rival gangs in Darmanawa quarters, Tarauni local government area of Kano on Sunday evening.

Daily Trust reports that trouble started after one Muhammad Barde, 59, organised a Gangi event [a cultural event for local hunters] to celebrate the wedding of his children.

It was gathered that most of the guests that attended the event were brandishing dangerous weapons, which suddenly triggered a clash.

While confirming the incident, the spokesman of Kano police command, Haruna Kiyawa, said the police responded to a distressed call and dispersed the armed hoodlums.

However, few hours later, the criminal elements reinforced and confronted the police.

According to the police image maker, two people identified as Sadiq Abdulkadir, 23, of Darmanawa Quarters, and Muhammad Sani, 22, of Sallari Quarters died.

Mr Kiyawa said police commissioner, Usaini Gumel, ordered the immediate arrest of the organiser of the event along with two others.

A teenager, Sadiq Abdullahi, 18, of Karkasara quarters, was said to have died from bullet wounds when police were trying to disperse the thugs, according to residents.

Meanwhile, the father of the boy, Abdullahi Yasayyadi, said he was in school when he received a call to come to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital to confirm the identity of his son, who died after a bullet hit him in the stomach.
