A total of 13 more overseas Indonesians have tested positive for COVID-19 most recently, bringing the group’s total tally to 2,966, the Indonesian foreign ministry reported on Thursday.
Of the 13 new cases, five were reported in Japan, four in the Maldives, the remaining two in Cuba and Bahrain respectively.
Furthermore, two more Indonesians, who live in Cuba and the Bahamas, have recovered from COVID-19, bringing the total number of recoveries from the epidemic to 2,107 or 71 per cent of the accumulated cases reported in the group of overseas Indonesians.
Meanwhile, in this group, 688 patients of COVID-19 are still under medical treatment, and the COVID-19 death toll among the overseas Indonesians remains at 171.
Similarly, at least 647 medical workers in Indonesia have died of COVID-19 from March 2020 to Wednesday, the Indonesian Medical Association said on Thursday.
Of the 647 medical workers, 289 were doctors, 27 dentists, 221 nurses, 84 midwives, 11 pharmacists, 15 medical laboratory staff members.

Head of the association’s mitigation team Adib Khumaidi said the small number of COVID-19 diagnostic tests had caused insufficient handling of the pandemic and many medical workers were exposed to the virus.
“The number of tests in Indonesia now is less than 5 per cent of the total population,” Khumaidi said.
The province with the highest number of medical worker deaths is East Java, which reported 188 deaths.
