In what appears to be a decisive political move, the Labour Party of Nigeria has reserved it’s 2027 presidential ticket for Mr Peter Obi, it’s candidate in the last controversial election.

It also offered governor Otti of Abia State the right of first refusal.

This was disclosed in a Communiqué issued after the convention of the party held on Wednesday in Nnewi, Anambra State.

Part of the communique reads, “The convention in session, based on the antecedents of the presidential candidate before, during and after the 2023 general election, recommend that the 2027 presidential ticket of the party be solely reserved for His Excellency, Mr. Peter Gregory Obi, the national leader of the party”.

Meanwhile, despite fierce opposition from the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Barrister Julius Abure, was also re-elected as the National Chairman of the Labour Party for a second term.

Mr Abure was re-elected through a unanimous affirmation of delegates.

Recall that Abure has been having a running battle with the NLC leadership led by comrade Joe Ajaero.

NLC had called for Abure’s resignation as party chairman and the immediate constitution of a caretaker transition committee to organise a legitimate and all-inclusive national convention for the party.
