Nigeria as a multi-lingual and multi-religious nation with attendant chaotic sociopolitical and economic structures can only be well developed when its citizens jettison an egocentric mindset that are clearly embedded in tribalism, religion and personal aggrandisement.

Such mindset with unbridled corruption and dysfunctional institutions has always been few of the contributing factors to why we have remained at the mercy of stagnant societal developments in the midst of abundant natural resources.

We have rising unemployment rate, high level of poverty, terrifying insecurity and weak economy due to our inability to support and elect a leadership whose skills and knowledge can unlock the systemic bottlenecks that have been hindering our national development.

And one is obliged to ask, for how long are we going to pretend that all is well with us, while we are only suffering in hardships and dying in penury?

We are where we are today because the old order we have been electing into power who do not understand that empowering the people with job creation, functional health care system, well-funded educational system, strong institutions and gigantic infrastructures will change the future of our society.

Their mindset is that we should be recruited into the army to be fed with “àgbàdo” in the morning, “ẹwà” in the afternoon and garri in the night. To them, the national treasury must be looted and the loot invested in the city of Dubai.

What our dear country yearns as this current stage of its socio-economic and political dispensation is a courageous leadership that has perceived the big picture of our challenges and also has the requisite knowledge to create environments of accountability, safety and trust that will ignite innovation in our body polity.

That’s what the Labour Party Presidential Candidate, HE Mr Peter Obi embodies as evidenced in his tours of European and American countries in recent times.

Just last week, he was at the European Commission Headquarters in Belgium to consult broadly and explore all value-adding options that shall be optimized for policy implementation when he assumes office as the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, God willing, come next year.

In his running mate, Dr Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, is a man ever committed to improving the living conditions of dear citizenry by moving people out of idleness into action for wealth creation.

The Kaduna State-born Economist is known to have continually shown a knack in managing difficult situations by crafting functional strategies that align with the developmental culture of our environment.

He recognized that without taking proper care of the felt needs of the growing number of the dying people, our society will remain unproductive and underdeveloped; hence, he is equally committed to providing a leadership that will build a brighter future for the present and next generations.

It is therefore no doubt that both men of proven people-oriented leadership are ready to put dear country in a progressive pathways of growth and development through fruitful engagements with world key leaders, and partnerships with powerful organizations.

Believe me that transformative leadership that can reposition our weak economy from its current state of consumerism to a fresh one of production for exportation is only “PO-ssible” with the former governor of Anambra State and former senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria elected our president and vice president respectively in the February 25th, 2023 elections, and “Datti’s” the truth we must accept!
