2023: Only Appropriate Energy in Aso Rock can Turn the Knob!

Labour Party presidential and vice presidential candidates, Peter Gregory Onwubuasi Obi and Senator Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed

Aso Rock is an architectural masterpiece and yours sincerely has only got close to the edifice, only to the point where DSS manned guarding seriously, scrutinising visitors. That was about 20 years ago.

From that point you could feel the power the executive structure wields. What happens inside is only one of the three power-points that run this country. The other two are the legislative and judicial arms. These are where the gods that rule the nation decide our fate daily.

We however indirectly reside in those institutions with what elections mean – the ability to say we are the people, who decided our fate about who rules us and how they should. Incidentally, many Nigerians who cast their votes in many elections we have had in the past don’t know the power they posses in that piece of plastic, called PVC.

It is one instrument that underscores everything we are and live for: schooling, buying and selling, our financial status and propensity to save, roof over our heads, societal inadequacies, ability to travel when and where one wants to.

Even our religious faith and spiritual meaning on the other side of our existence get affected by it. Only those whose security are secured, eat and move freely can shout the loudest Hallelujah for Christians, for instance.

But of the three arms of government, the Executive that reposit in Aso Rock is the fish-head. What energy has been in Aso Rock, the fish head, all these years? The kind and strength of that energy is where our problems have their book of Genesis, but have never had the book of Revelation.

Has it not been the energy of those whose voices, ideas, style and capacity, baggage and retinue of hangers-on are not in consonance with our present realities and multifaceted problems?

Basically, Aso Rock is not for retirees and that is the simple truth. Energy and capacity bounce in those who are abreast with where the knobs of developmental instruments can be turned. It must be turned clockwise, never the other way.

Turning a knob is better than polishing it to glitter for nothing. Aso Rock is not for knob polishers, or we keep shinning like a cricket burning itself to death, giving off aroma and oil. From the speeches of the candidates, we can see who has a better grip to turn the knob in the right direction.

Just think about it! Take a look at the presidential candidates and talk to yourself. Talk to the questions rocking your today right now as you read this, and the answers for your tomorrow as you think through and deep!

Get ready. Get your PVC. Get Peter Obi/Datti on the saddle.
