As 2023 draws closer, so also the agitations for which zone should produce the president, a north central group, North Central Progressive Group (NCPG), is demanding for the nation’s number one position be zoned to the North Central. Spokesman of the NCPG, Benjamin Sanni, who made the demand on Tuesday in Abuja, said that the position of the president and that of vice president should be rotated based on geopolitical zones and not on north and south basis.

Sanni said that since 1999, the north central was yet to produce a president or vice president and that if the opportunity is given to the zone, it will produce a president that will take Nigeria to where it should be.

“We support the issue of ban on open grazing, electronic transmission of results. But on the issue of rotation of the presidency; the north central and the southeast are being marginalized.

“There should be equity in the distribution of leadership. The north central and the southeast has not produced the president or vice president since 1999.

“We appeal to the other zones to support the north central for the position of the president and we are demanding that all political parties produce their candidates from the north central zone,” he said.

On the issue of getting the needed support from other zones, he said, “once we present our best, the other zones will support us.”

A member of the group, Aisha Okoye, said the north central geopolitical zone has never demanded for the nation’s number one position and that other regions should support them since it’s their first time since 1999 when the Fourth Republic started.

“The north central geopolitical zone since 1999 has not asked for the presidency; this is the first time they are asking and it will only be fair if all other zones will support them,” she said.

Another member of the group, Hon. Felix Idowu, said that the north central has very capable and qualified person’s who can properly manage the presidency and proffer solutions to Nigeria’s problems.

“We have very good candidates in the north central who are qualified and capable of solving Nigeria’s problems. They have been tried, tested and trusted.”
