Ahead of the 2023 general elections, renowned academic and proprietor, Turning Point Learning Field Professor Justice Chidi who is also the convener of Concerned Elite for a Better Society has told Southeast political leaders to avoid being involved in political roles for selfish interest that might jeopardize the chances of the presidential candidate of Labour Party Mr Peter Obi from winning the presidential election.

Speaking on 2023 elections and the chances of the presidential candidate of Labour Party in a chart with journalists at his office Onitsha, the Professor of Phycology pointed out that Peter Obi’s presidential candidacy suppose to be a collective aspiration of the people of the Southeast geopolitical zone considering the fact that the zone is being marginalized in Nigeria over the years.

He said: “As Ndigbo we have been crying and complaining of marginalization over the years and now God has brought Peter Obi to run for president with the support of vast majority of Nigerians.

“It is therefore expected of Ndigbo to naturally queue behind Peter Obi but some political leaders are still dancing to the tune of those behind the marginalization of our region”

He wondered why some people from the Southeast could still want the political parties like the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and All Progressive Congress (APC) that have been marginalizing the Southeast since 1999 to still remain in power and continue to condition Ndigbo like third class citizens

He asked “Are we (Ndigbo) third class citizens in this country? We are the ones developing every nooks and crannies of Nigeria with business establishments in small, medium and large scales such that we are the foremost job providers in this country but when it comes to political positions they relegate us to the back seat. For eight years of APC government no Igbo man is good enough to be a Service Chief. No Igbo man is competent enough to head the Police or DSS”

He added “Could you imagine that Ndigbo have been voting for PDP since 1999 but PDP refused to deem it right enough to nominate an Igbo man as its Presidential candidate after the Southwest produced President Olusegun Obasanjo and Southsouth produced President Goodluck Jonathan respectively”

He repeatedly called on Igbo political leaders to support Peter Obi to win the presidential election regardless of their personal interest because it is the turn of Ndigbo and nothing is too much or too small to sacrifice for it. Read more.
