17 killed in Borno suicide bomb attack — Army
Military authorities in Nigeria have said over 17 civilians were killed in the July 31 suicide bomb attacks in the Konduga location government area of Borno State.
The spokesman of the military High Command, Major General Edward Buba, disclosed this in a statement on Friday.
This medium reported that a female suicide bomber on Thursday detonated her suicide vest in Kawuri village of Konduga LGA in Borno State, killing many people and injuring several others.
The military said despite the incident its operations are continuing to deepen their successes, particularly in the North East and other parts of the country.
Giving an update on successes of military operations in the past month, the statement said troops killed 572 terrorists, arrested 790 suspected terrorists and other criminal elements, and rescued 479 kidnap victims.
The statement reads, “Additionally, troops recovered 440 weapons, and 10,589 ammunitions and denied the oil theft of an estimated sum of over 3 billion naira.
“The breakdown of recoveries in the month of July includes and is not limited to the following: 232 AK47 rifles, 93 locally fabricated guns, 82 dane guns, 32 pump action guns, 5,041 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, 2,768 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, 659 cartridges, 63 assorted arms, and 2,259 assorted ammunitions.
“Others are 3,650,080 litres of stolen crude oil, 625,518 litres of illegally refined diesel, 450 litres of kerosene and 1,230 litres of petrol, among other items.”
