There are silent political calculations going on within the camp of Governor Willie Obiano over the rumoured ambition of the governor to contest the 2023 Anambra north senatorial election.

It is gathered that the permutation for the chances of the governor to pick the party’s ticket has commenced.

A source within the governor’s camp said that allowing Hon Chinedu Obidigwe to go to the National Assembly to represent Anambra east and west federal constituency come 2019 will affect the governor’s chances of running for senate in 2023.

The source said some members of the governor’s kitchen cabinet who want him to go to the senate after his second term in office are concerned on the aspiration of Hon Obidigwe and how it will constitute a barrier for Obiano in 2023.

According to him, Hon Chinedu Obidigwe is from the same ward with gov Obiano. If Obidigwe is elected into the House of Representatives, he would seek for re-election in 2023.

By the time Obiano finishes his second term in 2022 and declares for senate, it will be against natural justice for Obiano and Obidigwe who are from the same ward to be elected into both chambers of the National Assembly.

It will be impossible to vote for Obiano for senate and Obidigwe from the same ward for the House of Representatives in 2023 general election.

Governor Willie Obiano and Hon Chinedu Obidigwe

To avoid this political clash in 2023, gov Obiano is expectes to withdraw his support for Hon Chinedu Obidigwe’s aspiration any moment from now.

A highly placed source said, “knowing that the governor will hand over in 2022, Obidigwe may not agree to step down for him in 2023 since both are from the same ward and can’t be supported for senate and House of Representatives at the same time.”

The gov’s men are already looking ahead of 2019 political calculation as they project the chances of their boss to be elected as a senator in 2023.

The fear within the gov’s camp is that they can not guarantee the loyalty of many of their supporters including Obidigwe as soon as the governor hands over power in 2022.

Their major concern is that Obidigwe and Obiano are from the same ward. They are afraid that Obidigwe is an ambitious youngman who would not agree to do only a term and step down for Obiano in 2023.

“I am sure Obidigwe will agree to do only a term. He may abandon Obiano after he hands over in 2022 and join forces with the next governor. If the next governor finds favour in him, he may even want to use him against Akpokue”, another insider told AIF Media

As Obidigwe begins to loose out, the permutation is now favouring Hon Obinna Emenaka who is from Nando.

By 2023, Hon Emenaka’s ambition will have no consequences on the senate aspiration of gov Obiano. Politics is a game of interest and the 2023 ambition of Obiano is now the biggest threat to Obidigwe’s aspiration.
