Former media aide to ex-president Goodluck Jonathan, Doyin Okupe has revealed why he was chosen as the running mate of the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

Recall that Labour Party of Nigeria in a statement yesterday unveiled Okupe as the running mates of the former governor of Anambra State but in placeholder position.

However, Okupe in a statement posted on his official Facebook page, said that he stepped in as Obi’s vice in order to beat the deadline given by the Independent National Electoral Commission to submit the names of candidates and their running mates.

According to him, an official announcement will be made after emerging grand coalition they are putting together is completely achieved.

The statement reads, “He wrote on Facebook: Dear supporters of Peter obi, & all OBIdient members of the Obi movement, I had to take the VP slot to meet up with the Inec deadline & not to predijuce the status of the emerging grand coalition we are putting together. In a short while when the real 3rd force is fully established, a new arrangement will be substituted.”
