The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has insisted there are enough newly redesigned notes for Nigerians.

Officials of the bank on a sensitisation tour of Adamawa State made the assertion in the state capital, Yola, asserting that deposit money banks only had to place a request for the new notes to be given.

Director of the Internal Audit Department of the CBN, Lydia Alfa, asked Nigerians not to panic over the availability of the new notes, especially in light of the extended deadline for cash swap.

He advised them however not to relax as if the February 10 date is so far away but to make the required effort to replace their old notes within time.

The CBN official said commercial banks had long been directed to obtain all their needs from the CBN and to ensure that their cash agents had sufficient new notes to meet the requirements of the public.

She said also that part of the reason for the meeting with the people of the grassroots was to tell them of the extension of the new deadline for phasing out the old notes but to warn them against indifference.

“We should not take our usual route of going home to sleep only to start rushing again when we have lost valuable time,” she said.
