There were approximately 3 Americans involved out of the 50 arrests in the DR Congo failed coup attempt, which included attacking the presidential palace, the African nation’s army said.

Social media videos show one of the Americans, a white man with blood around his mouth, sitting on the ground, appearing to beg Congolese soldiers for his life.

Mr Christian Malanga, the ring leader of the coup was killed at the presidential palace, a Congolese army spokesman, Brigadier General Sylvain Ekenge said.

Malanga’s son was one of the three US citizens arrested following the attack, as the interrogations continue, AP News reported.

NewsBand reported on Sunday that Democratic Republic of Congo’s (DRC) armed forces successfully thwarted an attempted coup against President Felix Tshisekedi on Sunday.

The clash between armed men in military camouflage and the guards of a prominent politician left three people dead.

Brigadier General Sylvain Ekenge, the army spokesman, confirmed that the coup attempt was immediately thwarted and that the situation was now under control.
