UPDATE: Many feared dead, injured as gunmen attack Anambra police checkpoint

Several persons are feared dead as gunmen have reportedly attacked a police checkpoint in Anambra State with several others injured.
Commuters were forced to run for dear lives as the gunmen shot non-stop around 10:30AM around Ihiala-Uli axis in Ihiala Local Government Area.
Security operatives were also seen scampering for safety in nearby bushes and villages while removing their uniforms.
News Band correspondent recalled that he was once forced to abandon the Onitsha – Owerri expressway when he arrived at a similar incident shortly after the attackers left.
The Anambra State Police Command has yet to issue an official statement concerning the latest incident.
It was gathered that the Police Commissioner Echeng Echeng has dispatched a special crack squad to the area to bring the situation under control.
