Ukraine hits Russian border regions, sets oil depot ablaze

Ukrainian forces on Wednesday, launched vicious attack on Russian border regions with missiles and drones, sparking a fire at an oil depot and damaging an industrial facility.

Two separate attacks targeted Russia’s southern Rostov region and western Bryansk region, both of which have been hit by cross-border fire throughout Moscow’s nearly three-year invasion.

The strikes come after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said air defense should save lives “and not gather dust in storage bases.”

Zelensky hailed the “Tangible blows against Russian targets” and stressed that these attacks would help bring the war to a close.

In a Telegram post, he confirmed that Ukraine had struck military facilities in Russian territory, as well as fuel and energy infrastructure supporting Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and it’s people.

As the war continues, Ukraine has intensified its strikes on Russian oil and gas infrastructure, damaging Moscow’s energy sector and costing billions of dollars.

The Ukrainian military noted that Russia was using the Bryansk facility as a key loading point for the Druzhba oil pipeline, a critical route for Russian oil heading to much of central Europe.

“A massive fire broke out,” Ukraine’s general staff was quoted as saying, but they did not comment on the Rostov attack.

Refineries and oil depots are vital to Russia’s economy, with some facilities even equipped with air defense systems to fend off attacks.

As a result of these ongoing strikes, Russian companies have redirected oil to locations farther from Ukraine, as some Ukrainian drones have reached hundreds of kilometers into Russian territory.

Ukraine defended its attacks as a legitimate response to Moscow’s strikes on its energy infrastructure, which have left millions without power.
