The United Kingdom Government praised Governor Peter Mbah for his impressive development efforts in Enugu State. They noted his excellent performance across various sectors.
Additionally, the UK Government expressed a willingness to collaborate with Enugu State for mutual benefits.
They highlighted the long-standing bilateral relationship between the UK and Nigeria.
British Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria, Ms. Gill Lever, delivered the commendation during her visit to the governor at the Government House in Enugu on Wednesday.
During her visit, Ms. Lever reaffirmed her government’s commitment to enhancing the human capital of the Enugu State Civil Service.
This aligns with Governor Mbah’s initiative to transition the state’s bureaucracy from manual processes to e-governance.
“I’m thrilled to visit Enugu State for the first time. I met the governor today, and we had a robust discussion about various issues.
I praised his excellent work in infrastructure, water and sanitation, health, business, and security, which are all interconnected.
“I believe he is serving the state exceptionally well. We are excited to partner with the governor and explore opportunities for mutual growth. We fully support his programs.
“Our government, alongside Nigeria, prioritizes economic growth. We actively seek opportunities to foster growth and development in Enugu State.
“We are also pleased to support a digital program for civil servants.
We have trained over 500 civil servants in digital skills to help realize the governor’s vision for improved public service delivery,” she stated.
In response, Governor Mbah expressed gratitude to the UK government for its support, particularly regarding the transition to e-governance.
“The recent digital access training for over 500 civil servants is timely and essential as we shift from manual operations.
“Furthermore, this initiative enhances the quality of services we provide to Enugu State residents.
It also increases our accountability by accurately capturing revenue and minimizing leakages, thus maximizing our available funds.
“We appreciate this support, especially as we aim to ensure all civil servants are digitally compliant and can effectively use the new portal.
“Further discussions included the technical assistance provided by the Foreign Commonwealth Development Office (FCDO) to the Enugu State Electricity Regulatory Commission.
Our government are eager to explore further collaboration with the UK Government, particularly with the FCDO,” Mbah stated.
A highlight of the British envoy’s visit was presenting certificates to participants in the second edition of the Enugu Digital Literacy Skills Training Program.
This program is a collaboration between the Enugu SME Centre, FCDO, and Tech4Dev, aimed at enhancing digital literacy among civil servants in Enugu State.
