The University of Ibadan (UI) has confirmed that the governor of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki graduated from the institution.

The Ibadan University made the confirmation in a statement issued by its Registrar, Mrs Olubunmi Faluyi on Wednesday.

According to the statement, Obaseki gained admission to the university in 1976 where he studied Classics and graduated in 1979 with a Second Class Honours (Lower Division).

The institution, while dispersing any doubts of his enrollment and graduation, said that “records of his admission and graduation are intact in the archives of the university.”

The governor’s traducers, especially from the state’s chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) had accused Obaseki of parading a fake certificate.

The claim that he did not graduate from the premier university is expected to be buried with the statement from University of Ibadan.

Obaseki is currently engaged in a battle of survival for a second term ticket for the Edo State governorship election coming up in September.
