A customer with UBA Bank, Mr. Wilson Anaekwe has raised alarm over perceived fraudulent activity by the United Bank for Africa (UBA Bank).
According to Mr. Anaekwe, who lives in the United States of America, on June 13, 2020, he made a transfer from his UBA bank account in Nnewi to his brother’s wife through Ecobank, Nnewi branch.
However, as at July 7, 2020, when he wrote an SOS message to ElombahNews, the brother’s wife was yet to received the money.
He said that he emailed his bank and demanded that they expedite action but all their response was “please give us four days and we will get back to you”.
“Now, however, nobody is talking to me,” he lamented.
Continuing, he said: “I have my June statement of account; the money is withdrawn from my account.
“And I have statement of account for June for my brother’s wife’s account; the money is not there.
“Please help me to expose this evil.
“Thanks.”
ElombahNews contacted UBA Bank through its Twitter customer care handle but they are yet to respond as at press time.
Recently, a columnist with ElombahNews, Mr. Emmanuel Onwubiko narrated the ordeals her wife went through with her banks in an article titled “Nigeria: Our Banks Are Pen Robbers“.
He told how how they gradually fleece and incrementally rob her of her deposits in the name of different charges once a transaction no matter how insignificant is conducted in these banks.
“The banks operate like organised criminal gangs,” he wrote.

“I stood speechless and looked at her with consolation,” he noted.
He, in turn, delivered his own version of similar experiences with the banks to her.
They then expressed collective grief that the Central bank of Nigeria under the current administration has been turned into a tax collector.
They are “charged with the harsh mandate of stealing from the poor to enrich the few elites and those in political offices who are the set of privileged Nigerians”, he said.
“These banks robbing us are the same that go cap in hand begging newly elected national legislators to collect loans from their vaults so as to settle down in the expensive Federal Capital Territory ruled by incompetent bunch of ministers.
“But they collude with the politically tainted administrators of the Central Bank of Nigeria to consistently device dubious means to steal from depositors,” he lamented.
