Trump proposes economic integration of Canada

President-elect Donald Trump stated on Tuesday that he prefers economic strategies over military actions to integrate Canada.

“Indeed, Canada and the United States could form one entity.

If we eliminate that artificially drawn line, we can observe the benefits for national security,” Mr. Trump explained during a news conference at Mar-a-Lago in Florida.

He emphasized that America invests “hundreds of billions” annually to safeguard and support Canada. “We don’t need their cars; they produce 20% of our vehicles. I would prefer manufacturing in Detroit. We don’t require cars or their lumber,” he declared.

Mr. Trump insisted, “We must lift unnecessary restrictions—imposed by misguided individuals—but I can efficiently accomplish this through an executive order. We don’t need anything from them.”

He asserted, “Why should we support a nation costing us over $200 billion each year? Our military is at their service and more. They should become a state,” he mentioned. “I conveyed this to [Canadian Prime Minister Justin] Trudeau during his visit.”

Finally, Mr. Trump has repeatedly referred to the idea of making Canada the 51st state while humorously labeling Mr. Trudeau as “governor.” However, Canadian officials have firmly rejected these proposals, stating that their nation will never join the U.S.
