Truck crushes 20 civilians in Anambra

Over 20 people were reportedly crushed to death in Nnewi, Nnewi North Local Government Area (LGA) of Anambra State when an unidentified truck loaded with cements lost control and nosedived into a residential area.

This medium understand that the unfortunate incident which occurred at about 2pm on Friday, along police area command, claimed the lives of the driver, two police officers, two children, nursing mothers and other yet to be identified persons.

In a viral video, houses, kiosks and shops were destroyed by the truck.

People were seen mourning and wailing as lifeless bodies of children and aged spread on the ground.

An eyewitness, Mr Sunday Alor, alleged that the truck had brake failure before the police area command and diverted to a market and family houses along the road, killing residents and traders at their homes.

“See this woman crying? Her two sons have died, and she also sustained injuries. There is a woman that was knocked down in her bedroom in this building. The driver is still inside the truck and we are trying to rescue him. But is like he is already dead,” a voice narrator in the trending video said.

Meanwhile, Margaret Onabe, the spokesperson for the FRSC in Anambra confirmed the incident.

She stated that the crash was recorded late on Friday.

“Our personnel are still assessing the situation to determine the full impact,” Onabe said.
