Troops nab suspected terrorists, recover arms, ammunition

Troops from the 6 Brigade have successfully arrested seven suspected terrorists and confiscated a cache of weapons in separate operations across the state.

According to a statement by the military headquarters, troops stationed at Kambari acting on credible intelligence on 7 of August, engaged suspected bandits attacking a Fulani settlement in Katlong Village, Karim Lamido local government area of Taraba State.

The bandits fled under heavy fire, leaving one suspect, Yusuf Musa behind.

He was arrested with an AK-47 rifle and 20 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.

The troops also recovered 118 cows, which were returned to their rightful owners.

Also, on August 6, 2024, in a separate operation, the troops acting on intelligence about suspected bandits heading to Mashingi Village market in Karim Lamido LGA to purchase food items, laid an ambush and successfully arrested four suspects.

Items recovered from them included a motorcycle, four mobile phones, and ₦57,000.

In a third operation on August 9, 2024, the statement said the troops, acting on a tip-off, mobilized to the Magami area in Jalingo local government area, where they arrested two suspects preparing large quantities of machetes, believed to be intended for distribution to hoodlums. They recovered 436 machetes, four filling machines, a mobile phone, and several fabrication tools.

Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of the 6 Brigade, commended the troops for their swift and effective actions in safeguarding the people of Taraba State.

He reiterated the Nigerian Army’s commitment to maintaining peace and security nationwide and called on citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities.

He assured the public that the arrested suspects would be handed over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation and prosecution.

Uwa also stressed the Army’s ongoing collaboration with other security agencies and community leaders to eradicate criminal activities in Taraba State and its environs.
