udomDSS, EFCC, ICPC Invade A’Ibom Govt House, Allegedly Cart Away Pounds and Dollars – A combined team of operatives from the Economic and Financial Crimes

Commission (EFCC), Department of State Security, DSS, and the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) thursday invaded the Akwa Ibom State Government House, Uyo and reportedly carted away bags of undisclosed amount of money in Pounds and Dollars.

But the Peoples Democratic Party on Friday raised the alarm that the ruling  All Progressives Congress (APC) was plotting forceful take-over of states it won in the last general elections and warned that such ambition should stopped forthwith.

“Let me alert the nation that a few hours ago, there was a civilian coop d’état in Akwa Ibom State where the Department of Security Services (DSS) under the leadership the Director General, Lawman Daura invaded the Akwa Ibom Government House, ransacked the entire government House looking for the Governor to kidnap,” said the National Chairman of PDP, Chief Uche Secondus.

Also, Governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Ayo Fayose, blasted the invasion of the government House, Uyo as a violation of the sanctity of the place and politicisation of security  in the country by the DSS.

Lamenting the alleged politicisation of the Security service under President Muhammadu Buhari, Fayose said Daura was allegedly acting in a manner that could portray Nigeria as  operating military government, which he described  as dangerous and inimical to the country’s democratic growth and should be sacked.

Addressing journalists in Ado Ekiti Friday, Fayose said it was quite unfathomable  that Daura had allegedly turned the secret services to attacking dogs, reminding him that efforts to drag the country back to years of autocracy , when people’s rights were being abridged,  would be resisted by all Nigerians.

“His actions as the DG DSS are regrettable, unfortunate, condemnable and unacceptable because he has come to symbolise dictatorship, which democracy abhors”, Fayose said.

Sources close to the State Government House said the team shortly on arrival seized the phones of some of the workers in strategic offices in the government house to block them from outside communication.

On arrival, the team went straight to the State Presidential lodge located within the Government House premises and broke the iron and mental door of a mini bank or safe built in the lodge.

The source said members of the team dragged out bags of money suspected to be of hard currencies saying their visit to the State Presidential Lodge to pack such huge amount of money may have been on a tip off.

Our Correspondent gathered that although the former Governor of the State, Chief Godswill Akpabio has left office, he was still in-charge of the Presidential lodge.

Who is trying to fool Nigerians DSS?

An unnamed DSS source had stated that: “During the operation (raid on Akwa Ibom Government House) which lasted for over an hour, our operatives found stockpile of arms and ammunition locked up in one of the guest houses within the Government House complex. We also found a room which has stacks of United States dollars, but since we had no order to take away our operatives left the room untouched. The operatives initially wanted to evacuate the dollar notes but received instructions from their superiors in Abuja to let the notes be.”

Something doesn’t add up here… How can a security agency raid a place based on a tip-off, find large stockpile of arms and ammunition and in the process find a whole room filled with hard currency which they conveniently “left untouched” based in orders from above?

Another official of the Service reportedly denied discovery of arms yesterday. He told stated: “Our men went there expecting weaponry but we didn’t find arms, instead, we stumbled on a room filled with stockpiles of dollars.”

The official said the SSS team however left the dollars untouched for fear of the “political backlash that might result if we evacuate it. They had no instruction to evacuate it”.

If arms and ammunition are discovered in a place that is not an armory by security agents, the first suspicion is terrorism and if such amount of money as described is further discovered in the same place which is also not a bank vault, would the right thing to do not be to secure the money pending investigations?

Also speaking, Essien Ndueso, former aide to Akpabiob said that “if truly arms were stockpiled, and millions of dollars were found at the Government House in Akwa Ibom State as published by the APC propaganda machine, then it would be so interesting to note that nobody has been arrested and no statement has been released to this effect by the anti-terrorism wing of the federal government after three days of the so-called raid, which completely shows that the story is false and malicious.

“Everyone saw that when issues of arms piling were leveled against a former national security adviser in this country, it was not done in hush tones. It is obvious that most intelligent people have most likely lost their senses of reasoning, that somebody cannot ask questions on why the raid were carried out?

“It is obvious that the cookies of the APC dreamers are crumbling at the tribunal and they decided to resort to use unconventional methods of wrestling power from the legitimate powers of the state. How dead wrong they are.”
