HE Peter Obi is a man I have followed to over 50% of his public speeches. And he hardly gets his statistics wrong. But he would have become God if he didn’t make a slip of the tongue or something similar in occasions, however rare. For a man who speaks extempore he remains a global marvel. Fact-check him as much as you wish, the man is simply a genius.

Since 2016 he appeared on The Platform, the man I love to refer to as one who came far ahead of his generation, has made over 100 public speeches – all live, while most were before quite big audiences. You can go and verify that he easily scores over 95% on any neutral’s scale of accuracy in all the statistical data he has ever provided – all from memory.

But while some other candidates in the coming Presidential Election filled their INEC forms with deliberate intent to mislead in many information provided under oath, these hired fact-checkers turn blind eyes to evident cases of perjury while fact-checking Obi on who between him and Rashidi Ladoja who was the first governor to come back from impeachment. Yes, Ladoja might have nicked it in a matter of days but Obi’s intent during the live interview was never to mislead. He was explaining his political life as full of miracles.

Let’s take count of what he said…

1. He joined a party just about a year old in existence when he started his political journey ✅

2. He won the Anambra Gubernatorial election under that new party in 2003✅

3. He was robbed and another person declared winner ✅

4. He went to court and won back his mandate after three years ✅

5. He became the first Nigerian to get back his gubernatorial mandate through the courts ✅

6. He was impeached six months later✅

7. He went back to court and the impeachment was annulled✅

8. He became the first governor to come back from impeachment ❎

9. INEC held an election in Anambra in 2007, declared Andy Uba winner and he was removed again✅

10. He went back to court for tenure interpretation and the supreme court brought him back✅

11. He became the first governor to win tenure interpretation and hence introduced staggering of elections in many states in Nigeria ✅

12. Since the inception of old Anambra State he became the first man to serve two gubernatorial terms✅

11/12… score that on any scale of measurement and you will ever get excellent.

On the mentioning of 150 players in the American National Basketball Association, NBA with about 100 Nigerians…I have listened to this man say in different speeches that there were 450 players in the NBA with about 100 of African origin with many of Nigerian parentage.

I watched him struggling through that interview because he was evidently very tired. Few people, very few people, would have taken that interview after the events like Obi had of that Monday evening but he had to go ahead because he was Obi. He hates any aspect of disappointment. And couldn’t disappoint a whole nation. Of course, his live interviews on televisions are now like those days presidential broadcasts. Most Nigerians with access to television and online facilities hook on.

Moreover, Seun Okinbaloye, the interviewer, asked him to wrap up in just 20 seconds. Such slips are not out of place in such circumstances. That was a live interview, quite different from other candidates of same election who conduct recorded and evidently edited interviews.

Can we turn our attention to such candidates who promise to employ 50 million Nigerian youths into the army and feed them with agbado to boost ‘demand and consumption’ as policy statement? And, of course, those who see over 90% northerners not in social media as an advantage instead of huge concern?

Don’t get distracted with frivolities. We know what stuff the man we also call Okwute is made of.

Let me end this exercise with this statement from Matthias Obahiagbon, a veteran filmmaker and a great OBIdient Nigerian…

“Let them fact-check everything he does, eats, or says….who cares? The only constant is that he will be Nigeria’s President in 2023. The OBIdient ones can’t be bothered anymore with the manipulation and machinations of these no-do-gooders that have oppressed suppressed and intimidated the citizens all the years. We are done sacrificing….now we remain steadfastly OBIdient.”

Nothing more to add…

Just get your PVC ready for February 25, 2023.
