Hunter Biden faced federal gun charges, underwent a jury trial, and ultimately received a conviction for those charges.

He also pleaded guilty to federal tax charges before receiving a pardon from his father in December.

On Monday, the special counsel defending the investigation released a report that countered claims from President Joe Biden.

This report also addressed concerns from Biden’s family about political motivations behind the cases under scrutiny.

On Monday afternoon, Attorney General Merrick Garland submitted the special counsel David Weiss’s report to Congress and made it public.

Weiss emphasized that the charges against Hunter Biden were serious.

He highlighted that others in similar situations would face prosecution for lying on a gun purchase form and failing to pay taxes.

Hunter Biden was convicted of gun charges in a jury trial and pleaded guilty to tax charges before being pardoned.

Weiss asserted his investigation remained “impervious to political influence at all times.”

He noted that no judge sided with Biden’s lawyers in their efforts to dismiss the charges based on selective prosecution.

The special counsel, also the U.S. attorney for Delaware, criticized the outgoing president for condemning the Justice Department’s investigation.

The report stated, “Other presidents have pardoned family members, but in doing so, none have taken the occasion as an opportunity to malign the public servants at the Department of Justice based solely on false accusations.”
