Soludo joyously displays his Certificate of Return

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) this morning append up the 2021 Anambra State Governorship election with the presentation of the Certificate of Return to Prof. Chukwuma Soludo who won governorship election held on November 6.

Also on the podium was his running mate, Dr Onyekachi Ibezim. Both collected their separate certificates amidst tumultuous cheers from family members, friends, well wishers, political associates, stalwarts and members of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), the platfywith which they run for the Nov 6,2021 election and won.

The brief colorful presentation ceremony took place at the INEC State Headquarters, Awka.

The Chairman of INEC, Prof Mahmood Yakubu, who made the presentation at the Commission’s Awka office commended the stakeholders particularly the security agencies for their role in the smooth conduct of the governorship process.

Prof Yakubu, who was represented by the INEC National Commissioner, in charge of Voters Education and Enlightenment, certified that Prof. Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), has been elected to the office of governor of Anambra State of the Federal Republic of Nigeria at the election held on the November 6, 2021.

The party which was recording its fifth straight Governorship election cycle/tenure wins in the state won 19 out of the 21 Councils of the state including Ihiala LGA which had supplementary election Tuesday, Nov 9,2021.

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP)candidate, Chief Valentine Ozigbo won only Ogbaru Council, while the candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP), Senator Ifeanyi Ubah won only Nnewi North Council, his home Council area.

Prof Soludo had garnered 112,229 votes, while his closest rivals, Ozigbo polled 53,807 votes; Senator Andy Uba of the All Progressives Congress (APC)scored 43,285 votes and Senator Ubah of the YPP polled 21,261 votes.

In a short remark after receiving his Certificate of Return, Soludo admitted that with the level of transperency INEC displayed in the election, shows that democracy has eventually come to stay in Nigeria.

He Gov Willie Obiano, for his unrivaled support, and all the security agencies, for protecting Ndi-Anambra before, during and after the election.

He thanked the citizens for believing in him and his electoral promises, and promised to make Anambra state a foundation of Democracy in Nigeria

Shortly after the event, members of APGA and friends who trooped out to celebrate with the ex-CBN governor as they all headed to Isuofia, his country home to continue the celebration.

Since pronouncing Soludo winner of the election, he has been inundated with congratulatory goodwill messages across party line, gender, class and creed.
