Shehu Sani, former Kaduna Central Senator, has rejoined the APC following reconciliation efforts with Governor Uba Sani.
On February 16, 2025, he returned alongside PDP and NNPP members, reshaping Kaduna’s political dynamics.
Previously, Sani left the APC in 2018 over primary election disputes. Afterward, he joined the PDP and contested the 2019 senatorial race.
His return now signals strategic realignments within Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.
However, he lost to Uba Sani, who is now the incumbent Governor of Kaduna State.
Speaking on Channels Television’s programme “Hard Copy” on Friday, Shehu Sani disclosed that his decision to return to the APC was influenced by Governor Uba Sani’s efforts to mend political divides and foster unity within the party.
“A circumstance led to our mass exit from the APC sometime in 2018, and that circumstance has changed, and then we rejoined the APC in Kaduna State,” Sani explained.
Reflecting on his history with the party, Sani emphasized his foundational role in establishing the APC in Kaduna State. “First of all, I was a founding member of APC, particularly in Kaduna State. We established structures, and we did the campaigns and won the 2015 elections both at the senatorial and the governorship levels,” he said.
However, internal conflicts with former Governor Nasir el-Rufai led to his departure from the party. “We parted ways over differences that are both political, personal, and also issues that affect the state,” Sani added.
The former senator credited Governor Uba Sani for initiating reconciliation talks and fostering an inclusive approach to governance.
The new governor has actively reached out to citizens while consulting stakeholders and building bridges statewide.
His collaborative approach signals a commitment to inclusive governance and unifying diverse communities under proactive leadership.
We also met and agreed that we should return to the party that we founded in Kaduna State,” he stated.
This move will likely strengthen the APC’s Kaduna presence as it solidifies its electoral base.
Meanwhile, Governor Uba Sani’s reconciliation initiatives have unified factions, earning praise for fostering political cohesion.
Shehu Sani’s APC return highlights ongoing realignments, as stakeholders collaborate to tackle Kaduna’s governance challenges.
By aligning interests, they aim to prioritize development and stabilize the state’s political landscape.
