Senator Ifeanyi Ubah calls for promotion of Igbo culture
As Onitsha Catholic Youths hold cultural fiesta
The Senator representing Anambra South and founder of Afaigboefuna Movement, Dr. Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah on Sunday, urged ndị Igbo to always promote the norms, values and traditions of the Igbo nation.
He made this call while speaking at the 2021 Archdiocesan Youth Day and Cultural Fiesta, organized by the Onitsha Archdiocese chapter of the Catholic Youth Organization of Nigeria (CYON) at St. Jude Parish Fegge Onitsha in Onitsha South Local Government Area of Anambra State.
According to him, Ndị Igbo should always project the Igbo culture at their various places of residence.
Senator Ubah who lamented the rising rate at which our young ones prefer foreign tongues to the detriment of our mother tongue, called on parents, to always ensure that they prioritise the use of Igbo Language in their various homes.
Senator Ubah used the opportunity to commend the catholic church for organizing programmes that champion the promotion of the Igbo culture.
Speaking further on the importance of principled lifestyle and discipline in the life of every youth, the Afaigboefuna founder advised the members of the catholic youths organisation that without self-discipline and hard work, success becomes elusive.
He tasked them not to relent in their various legitimate efforts aimed at self-development and called on government at various levels to always support the Youths with incentives to enable them to develop their various potentials.
Senator Ubah also urged the Youths to always respect constituted authorities and remain law-abiding, while he reassured the gathering that he will never relent in championing programs that impact positively on the people with special bias on his fellow youths.
In his brief remarks, the Onitsha Archdiocese CYON Director-General, Rev. Fr. Vincent Ezenwaka thanked Senator Ubah for gracing the event.
“Your closeness and availability to the people is second to none in this state.
“We are grateful to you for always coming in with a helping hand whenever we call on you.”, Reverend Father Ezenwaka Said.
He also appreciated the Senator for championing quality legislation at the upper chamber of the National Assembly and urged him to keep on with the good works he is doing.
The CYON Director General further disclosed that the event was organized by the church, to support the promotion of the norms, and cultural values of Ndị Igbo and to also enlighten the Youths on the importance of a principled Christian lifestyle and discipline.
He called on the government at all levels to always encourage the Youths with effective policies and programmes that assist in their development.
The highlights of the occasion were different cultural dance and stage play performances by the Catholic youths who were obviously basking in the euphoria of the Senator’s mentoring presence in their midst.
