Senate on Thursday resolved to write Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) Walter Onnoghen on the issue relating to Federal High Court judgement restraining the National Assembly from further action on the matter.
The lawmakers who were infuriated about the court order resolved to inform him on the issue of separation of powers in the Constitution vowed to override President Muhammadu Buhari on Electoral act
Senate decision to write CJN was as a result of the point of order raised by Senate Minority leader, Godswil Akpabio .
The Upper chamber also resolved to ask the CJN to caution judicial officers in the country from granting orders, injunction that negate the principle of separation of powers.

Speaking in favour of the point of order, Senator Ahmad Lawan who expressed dissatisfaction with court wondered how could court restraining National Assembly from ongoing process.
According to him, I agree completely with the fact that there is separation of power in different level. The matter at stake does not require court intervention because this is the working of democracy.
It could be recalled that Federal High Court in Abuja restrained the National Assembly and other parties in a suit challenging the legitimacy of the Electoral Act (Amendment) Bill, 2018, from acting on the Bill pending the next hearing on the matter.
