Sen. Nwaoboshi Arrested, Charged With Fraud, Money Laundering [Doc]

The Senator representing Delta North senatorial district in the National Assembly, Mr. Peter Nwaoboshi has been arrested and charged to court over issues bothering on fraud and money laundering.

Senator Nwaoboshi was charged by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to the Federal High Court of Nigeria Holden at Lagos.

The first count of the charge stated that Nwaoboshi bought a property, Guinea House, situated at Marine Road, Apapa, Lagos for N805 million.

Part of the money for the purchase, N320 million, however, are proceeds of corrupt practices and is tantamount to money laundering.

The offence is punishable under Section 15 of the Money Laundering/Prohibition Act of 2011 and could see the Senator wallow in in jail for up to 7 years.

He was charged alongside Golden Touch Construction Projects Ltd., and Suiming Electricals Ltd. as co-defendants.

EFCC has confirmed the arrest and detention of Senator Nwaoboshi.

Declining to comment further, though, the spokesperson to the EFCC, Mr Wilson Uwujaren did not also give reasons why the senator was being held.

ElombahNews gathered, however, that Nwaoboshi was arrested over the purchase of Guinea House building owned by Delta State.
