Scores of civilians have been reportedly killed after a petrol tanker exploded late Tuesday night along the Kano-Hadejia expressway in Taura Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
The sad incident was disclosed by Mr Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency expert focused on the Lake Chad region.
According to Makama, the explosion started around 11:45pm and lasted until 3:15am on Wednesday.
He said the blast ignited a massive fire that claimed many lives and left at least 300 individuals severely injured.
The flames reportedly spread rapidly, causing extensive damage and overwhelming emergency services in the area.
At time of filing this report, authorities have not confirmed the exact death toll, but rescue and recovery operations are actively underway.
Meanwhile, efforts are being made to identify the victims and provide medical assistance to those injured in this tragic incident.
