Reno Omokri responds to media queries amid Natasha Akpoti’s harassment allegation against Akpabio
Reno Omokri has urged media outlets to avoid linking him to Senator Natasha Akpoti’s sexual harassment claims against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
The former presidential aide emphasized this during recent press inquiries on Saturday, March 1, 2025.
Following a Senate seating dispute, Akpoti accused Akpabio of harassment during a live broadcast, sparking nationwide debates. Meanwhile, Omokri referenced her 2014 allegation against him, which he previously denied.
In response, Omokri shared his past experience but clarified he cannot verify Akpoti’s current claims. “I wasn’t present during the alleged incident,” he stated, urging neutrality until investigations conclude.
However, I can testify that Senator Natasha Akpoti once had an altercation with me on social media,” Omokri stated.
Omokri attributed the incident to a social media post after he rejected a woman’s advances and praised his wife, whom he called a beauty queen.
He claimed the woman was Senator Akpoti’s associate; subsequently, Akpoti accused him of sexually harassing her during a 2014 Aso Rock reception for Kenya’s President.
“Meanwhile, Omokri refuted the allegations, presenting evidence confirming his U.S. role as Jonathan’s envoy during the incident.
Specifically, documentation proved his absence abroad, invalidating the claims.”
By actively countering accusations, he reinforced accountability through verified records, ensuring transparency while addressing public skepticism over the timeline.
“Senator Akpoti’s claims fail,” he stated, “since I was abroad then.”
I met and was photographed with multiple U.S. officials, including State Department officials, in Washington, D.C.,” he explained.
Omokri defended himself by publishing his British Airways ticket and passport stamps, proving he was abroad during the incident. Senator Akpoti then deleted her allegations and disparaging video.
Next, Omokri disclosed a clergyman-brokered settlement resolved the dispute, stressing it concluded his involvement. He urged media to exclude him from Akpoti-Akpabio’s controversy.
While allegations against Akpabio fuel debate, Omokri reaffirmed neutrality, demanding outlets respect his stance and avoid further association with the conflict.
The Senate President has yet to issue a formal response to Senator Akpoti’s claims.
