For over 20 years, a gang of thugs held the people of Enugu State to ransom. Their official name was PDP party at state level, but their real name was Ebeano clan. With the emergence of Peter Obi led Labor Party, the yoke of the Ebeano clan has been broken permanently in Enugu State.

It is unfortunate that the INEC declared PDP candidate the winner of the gubernatorial elections in the most controversial circumstances. But one should be confident that Labour Party will challenge that decision successfully in court.

The key thing today in Enugu is that the yoke of Ebeano has been broken. With Labour Party holding majority of seats at the State House of Assembly and majority of the seats in the federal legislative houses, it will be impossible for a PDP governor to abuse power in Enugu State. The era of rampant stealing of state resources by the governor of Enugu State is over.

The challenge the Labour Party has in Enugu and all over the country is how to consolidate its electoral victories. APC at the center and PDP at the state level will try to buy up the Labour lawmakers as their plan to reverse the gains of Labour. That is the danger the party must avoid. They must keep their candidates in the party.

With the Ebeano clan feeling skimmed out of PDP in Enugu State, it is obvious that PDP will likely remain on the decline in Enugu State. Whichever way one looks at it, it is a huge victory to the people of Enugu. The Labour-led House of Assembly must be prepared to check the PDP-led Executive. The true winners in a governance environment marked by checks and balances are the people of Enugu State.
