Barcelona FC defeated Real Madrid at Camp Nou in a La Liga match played on Sunday, March 19.

Real Madrid went ahead thanks to an Araujo own goal, Barcelona levelled before half-time, Asensio made it 1-2, but the goal was ruled out by the VAR, and the Catalans scored in stoppage time.

Real Madrid said it didn’t deserve to lose the Clásico at Camp Nou as an exciting first ten minutes saw both teams have chances.

Benzema tried his luck with a left-footed shot from the edge of the area with barely a minute gone.

The home side hit back twice with Lewandowski’s shot from the edge of the area with 6 minutes on the clock and Rapinha’s header just three minutes later.

Courtois did well to keep both out before Ancelotti’s side went ahead.

Vini Jr. broke into the box and his cross hit the head of Araujo and found its way into the home side’s net.

As the minutes passed, Real Madrid were very solid and conceded few chances to Barcelona, with the exception of a Rapinha shot from outside the box that was turned behind for a corner after Courtois had cleared the ball off the line in the 34th minute.

And just when it seemed like it was going to be 0-1 at the break, Sergi Roberto struck in the last move of the first half after a series of deflections and a subsequent close-range finish.

The first chance after the break went the way of Madrid as Vini Jr. did well to evade the attentions of Araujo and cross but Valverde’s effort from inside the box failed to find the target.

Ancelotti’s side were settling into the Camp Nou nicely now and could have gone ahead on 63’ when they won the ball back high up and Rodrygo managed to fire a shot off from the edge of the area but it flew over the bar.

Ten minutes later, Courtois was forced to repel a long-range Rapinha drive before Benzema responded in kind with 80 minutes on the clock but Ter Stegen was able to gather.

It was a crazy spell and the very next move saw Asensio put the ball into the back of the net from Carvajal’s pass but De Burgos Bengoetxea overturned the goal after the VAR spotted an incredibly marginal off-side against the madridista forward.

He was at the centre of the action again on 85’, letting off a fierce effort from distance which whistled just the wrong side of the post.

The Madrids had the opposition penned back and would have merited a winner but it was ultimately Kessié who popped up with the goal at the other end to hand Barcelona all three points. Read more.
