I commend @MBuhari for announcing June 12th as our new Democracy Day. This is long overdue and I am pleasantly surprised.I also commend him for honoring Chief MKO Abiola, the winner of the June 12th 1993 presidential election, with the posthumus award of GCON.This is great news!

President @Mbuhari is a joke. In desperation for the Southwest vote, he has declared June 12, Democracy Day a d given MKO Abiola a post humous GCFR. What hypocrisy! This was a man who served Abacha while Abacha jailed Abiola. This was a man who praised Abacha, Abiola’s jailer! pic.twitter.com/1GQswI3ikO

A girl’s suitor sees her dad called ‘June 12’ dying for 16 yrs & does nothing to save him. A new suitor comes to rescue her dad. Ironically, d old suitor (who didn’t take his chance) is seeing a desperate rival, but d girl is seeing a caring man with whom she has fallen in love😜

The official recognition and honor accorded to Chief MKO,Chief Gani and the June 12 pro democracy struggle by the PMB Govt is commendable. Our 1993 mass action against military dictatorship has been crowned.A fierce battle we fought & a recognition we humbly appreciate.

June 12 is bigger than Buhari. It is a privilege for him to be the president that finally acknowledges the date as Democracy Day. This is Justice. And it is well served. We can go back to asking about Buhari’s achievements but this one, leave it, you can’t knock it!

If Buhari gets re-elected, declaring June 12 Democracy Day (and honouring MKO Abiola and Gani Fawehinmi) is not going to be the primary reason he gets elected. I don't think any sensible person would go to the poll voting Buhari because of June 12.

Recognizing June 12 (a good move) doesn't remove from the fact that Buhari is a grossly incompetent ruler. Under his watch, citizens are slaughtered in their numbers by rampaging killer herdsmen… And Buhari looks on.

The posthumous grant of the rank of GCFR on Chief MKO Abiola & the recognition of June 12 as democracy day is commendable move by @MBuhari. I commend it.
However, it's difficult not to see this for what it is. A desperate political move aimed at wooing voters in the South West.

MKO Abiola, yes. Gani, yes. June 12 as Democracy Day, yes. Kingibe, NO. His ignominious role in burying June 12 is legendary. Undeserving.

Making June 12 Democracy Day instead of May 29. That is called bribery and corruption.

It is very sad that Buhari & his gang have resorted to playing politics with our democracy. Even though #june12 might be the only achievement of this administration, the people will still not be deceived by this gimmick. Nigerians will enjoy #June12 & still vote him out in 2019.
