Hon. Obunike Ohaegbu, a former Commissioner with Public Complaints Commission (PCC), FCT chapter, has refuted the statement credited to former aide to former President Goodluck Jonathan, Dr. Doyin Okupe that some individuals within the national secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are scuttling the political base of Peter Obi in Anambra state.

Chief Ohaegbu, who is aspiring to serve as the State Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), made the rebuttal in a statement he personally signed and made available to News Band late Tuesday.

This medium had quoted Dr. Okupe as saying in part:

“It is a matter for great regret that despite HE Peter Obi’s gentlemanly civil disposition and unwavering commitment to PDP as a party, some officials in the National Secretariat of the party do not accord him the respect due to him as the leader of the party in Anambra state.”

He added: “Recently a free and fair national delegates elections were conducted in the state and the results verified by INEC officials.

“Surprisingly some people within the state are trying to collude with certain elements within the National Secretariat to manipulate these results in order to undermine the political base of Peter Obi in Anambra.”

Reacting to the statement during an interview with News Band, Ohaegbu insisted that the statement is not true and that Okupe was misinformed.

He said: “I have read the statement which accused “individuals within the PDP national Secretariat ” of scuttling political base of Peter Obi in Anambra State and I can tell you categorically that the statement is not true and I believe that the respected former Adviser to the President, Okupe was misinformed.

“The members of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party should rather be commended for the leadership and experience they have shown in managing the affairs of the PDP at the State.

”Some elements within the Party made efforts to hijack the National Delegates election process in Anambra and force the Party to accept a list of supposed National Delegates but their efforts were resisted by vigilant Party members.

“Making efforts to drag our brother Mr. Peter Obi into the matter is an unfortunate disservice to the former Governor of Anambra State.

“Mr. Peter Obi is one of us and nobody should try to undermine him by associating him with the undemocratic efforts at imposing delegates on Ndi Anambra.

“The members of the NWC, especially the National Legal Adviser and the National Secretary who is from the South East should be commended on the maturity they have exhibited in managing the plethora of cases and petitions emanating from Anambra State.

“Everyone aspiring to be a National Delegate from Anambra is onye Anambra. No stranger bought the form to be a National Delegate from Anambra,” he added.

He quickly noted, however, that he is not being antagonistic to Peter Obi, rather, is only interested in setting matters straight to avoid confusion and/or bad blood in the state chapter of the party.
