Protests: Gov Sani imposes 24-hour curfew
Following the hunger protests which have turned chaotic, Kaduna State Security Council has imposed a 24-hour curfew.
Though, despite normalcy returning in some areas of Kaduna, a large group of youths remain on the streets, calling for an end to bad governance.
Meanwhile, President Tinubu’s nationwide broadcast urging calm was met with disapproval from protesters, who felt their grievances were not properly addressed.
Samuel Aruwan, Overseeing Commissioner for the Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, announced the curfew, stating it was implemented to safeguard peace.
He highlighted that the protests had been hijacked by criminal elements engaged in looting and property vandalism.
“The Kaduna State Security Council, under Governor Uba Sani’s leadership, has assessed the situation and decided to impose a 24-hour curfew on Kaduna and Zaria Metropolises and surrounding areas effective immediately,” Aruwan said.
He urged citizens to stay indoors as security forces work to restore order, promising that the situation will be continually monitored for any necessary adjustments to the curfew.
