Controversial governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has described Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party as the hero of the just-concluded presidential poll.

Wike made the statement while addressing a town hall with Igbo traders in Port Harcourt on Saturday.

He said despite Obi not having been declared the winner, his participation in the election ensured a southerner emerged as the President-elect.

According to Wike, Obi recorded victories where the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, would have won, thereby retaining power in the North.

“In this election that we just did,” he said, “Obi is my hero, as far as I’m concerned. If he didn’t contest, power would have remained in the North,” he said.

News Band reports that the Niger Delta-born politician has been in the eye of the storm after he was accused of rigging the presidential election in favour of APC candidate, Mr Bola Tinubu in the State.

Meanwhile, supporters of Mr Peter Obi who were angered with the outcome of the presidential poll in Rivers State have vowed to pay back the flippant governor for his treacherous action come 18 of March.

Wike is campaigning for his anointed candidate, Fubara Siminayi who has been on the wanted list of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for N435 billion fraud to takeover the leadership baton from him.
