Mr. Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the last election, has visited human rights activist and lawyer, Dele Farotimi who was recently released from prison.

During the visit, the former Governor of Anambra State, expressed his pleasure in finding Farotimi in good spirits, hailing his resilience and unwavering commitment to the cause of a better Nigeria.

He said, “Yesterday, following my visit and meeting with President Obasanjo, I made time to visit my dear younger brother, Dele Farotimi. Since his return from the correctional center in Ekiti, I have not had the opportunity to meet with him. I was pleased to find him in good spirits and deeply encouraged by his unwavering dedication to the struggle for a better Nigeria.

“@DeleFarotimi exemplifies courage in the face of adversity, consistently taking bold stands for good governance in our nation. I wish him a fruitful and productive year as we continue to work together toward the development of our country.

“A New Nigeria is POssible.”

NewsBand reported that Mr Babalola, founder of Afe Babalola University Ado Ekiti (ABUAD), had petitioned the police in the state alleging that Mr Farotimi defamed him in his book, ‘Nigeria and its Criminal Justice System’.

Babalola’s petition led to the police filing criminal defamation charges against Farotimi, leading to his arraignment at a chief magistrate’s court in Ado Ekiti.

However, a Chief Magistrate Court in Ado Ekiti granted Farotimi N30 million bail, two sureties, one of whom must be a property owner, a submission of Farotimi’s passport and a prohibition of Farotimi granting media interviews once released.

He was later released from prison after meeting his bail conditions.
